Report: Yaya Toure considering quitting international duty with Ivory Coast
Yaya Toure may follow his older brother Kolo Toure into international retirement.
The Manchester City midfielder has accumulated 100 caps for his country, and captained them to Africa Cup of Nations glory in Guinea earlier this year.
Liverpool defender Kolo Toure retired from international duty after the tournament win, and now Yaya may follow suit, asking to not be included in the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sierra Leone.
"At the moment he's in a period of reflection about his international future," national team coach Michel Dussuyer told reporters. "I met him in London and told him I was counting on him.
"He's a big player and the captain of the team. I hope he'll continue his adventure with us."
The news will be welcomed by most of City's supporters, as the powerhouse midfielder has been reaping the benefits of a sustained rest over the summer, drawing plaudits with some fantastic performances in the Premier League.
Toure is expected to be one of the first names on the team sheet as City looks to make it 10 wins in a row for the first time in its history. They welcome Watford to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
