Report: Leicester expected to hire Jesse Marsch as manager
Jesse Marsch is set to make a swift return to the Premier League.
The American, who was dismissed as Leeds United manager in February, impressed Leicester City officials while interviewing for the club's vacant managerial role and is now expected to replace Brendan Rodgers on a multi-year contract, reports The Telegraph's Sam Wallace and John Percy.
Numerous other candidates, including Rafael Benitez, Martin O'Neill, and Dean Smith, reportedly discussed the vacancy with Leicester, but Marsch appears to have won out.
The Foxes were open to hiring somebody on an interim basis, with temporary bosses Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell initially tipped to oversee the team for the remainder of the season. However, they're now likely to sign Marsch to a contract until the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
The club sacked Rodgers as manager on Sunday after five defeats in Leicester's last six Premier League outings dropped them into the relegation zone. They surrendered a league-high 22 points from winning positions this term under Rodgers.
"I am obviously disappointed to depart so close to the end of the season and had every confidence that we would have delivered the results needed to preserve the club's Premier League status," Rodgers said in a statement after his departure.
Leicester lost back-to-back home matches to Aston Villa and Bournemouth since Rodgers was fired.
Marsch, 49, held talks with Southampton around a week after Leeds showed him the door, but the two parties couldn't reach an agreement over the duration of his contract. He managed the New York Red Bulls, Red Bull Salzburg, and RB Leipzig before his one-year stint in West Yorkshire.
Leicester were also admirers of Graham Potter, who was recently axed by Chelsea, but the Englishman opted to go on holiday after his difficult spell with the Blues.
