Klopp: 'I'm concerned about our situation'
Jurgen Klopp is concerned with Liverpool's disappointing return of two points from three matches to begin their Premier League campaign.
The Reds' latest setback was against their archrivals Manchester United, who rocked Liverpool early on with their aggressiveness and positive play. Monday's 2-1 defeat left the Reds - who still have several first-team players unavailable due to fitness issues or suspension - in 16th place.
"We are in a tricky situation injury-wise. That's how it is," Klopp told Sky Sports post-match. "We get through the week with 14, 15 senior players available, and we have to make sure that none of them get injured now during the week. There's no real options left anymore."
He added: "I'm concerned about our situation. It's not easy at the moment, but that's how it is. So, we live with it, and we prepare now for Bournemouth and then Newcastle and then Everton."
Injuries to Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have slashed Klopp's numbers in midfield, while Ibrahima Konate and Joel Matip are missing defensively. Attacker Diogo Jota is also injured, while new striker Darwin Nunez is serving a suspension following his red card in last week's 1-1 home draw with Crystal Palace.
Liverpool's lack of options led Klopp to name a third goalkeeper in Monday's matchday squad - Harvey Davies - who sat with fellow teenagers Stefan Bajcetic and Bobby Clark on the bench. All three are yet to make their debuts in the senior game.
"To play the football we are able to play, we want to fight," Klopp told BBC Sport. "We have a good home game on Saturday, and Anfield has to be rocking. We have to set the fire and the rhythm.
"We will try absolutely everything that every Liverpool supporter will expect. We will fight for our lives."
