Mbeumo, Toney shine in Brentford's win over West Ham
LONDON (AP) — Brentford looks sure to be playing a second season in the Premier League after Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney combined to clinch a 2-0 win over West Ham on Sunday.
Their second-half goals lifted the west London team 12 points clear of the Premier League relegation zone with six games remaining, building on last weekend's 4-1 victory over Chelsea.
Mbeumo scored the opener three minutes into the second half with an angled shot after being teed up by Toney's clever flick. It was the French forward’s fourth goal of the season and his first since December.
He then returned the favor for his strike partner as Toney grabbed his 14th goal of the season in the 64th.
Yoane Wissa fed Rico Henry down the left and the defender's cross was steered back across goal by Mbeumo for Toney to head in the simplest of finishes.
For West Ham it was another dent in its fading hopes of a top-four finish and Champions League qualification, finishing the weekend six points behind Tottenham having played an extra game.
The east London club also saw defender Kurt Zouma limp off after taking a hefty kick to an ankle from Christian Norgaard.
