Report: Rooney holds Derby County player-coach talks
D.C. United star Wayne Rooney has reportedly held discussions with English Championship side Derby County about possibly joining the club as a player-coach.
Derby owner Mel Morris is looking to recruit a second high-profile name to the Rams' coaching staff following last month's appointment of former Netherlands midfielder Phillip Cocu as manager, according to The Telegraph's James Ducker.
Rooney's agent, Paul Stretford, has reportedly engaged in preliminary discussions with Derby County prior to an additional round of talks.
Rooney, who joined D.C. last June on a three-year deal, has previously said he's interested in managing.
"I'm taking the steps to get my badges completed and when I finish playing I'll see what opportunities come up," England's all-time leading scorer said in June.
"There's already offers which have been made, but at the minute I'm still a player and I want to enjoy playing, and then I'll see which offers are right when I do finish," Rooney added.
