A reported Arsenal transfer target has again been linked with north London rival Tottenham.

With talk of Arsenal's interest in Bordeaux winger Malcom stalling, the Telegraph's Jason Burt reports that Tottenham met with representatives for the Brazilian this week in London in hopes of securing a £35-million move for the 20-year-old. The report adds that a potential deal for Malcom would also include an additional £9 million in performance-related add-ons.

Burt contends that Bordeaux prefers to keep hold of Malcom until the summer amid an erratic campaign for Les Girondins that saw tactician Jocelyn Gourvennec get the sack earlier in the week. Bordeaux currently sits 13th in Ligue 1, just two points clear of the drop zone after slumping to five defeats in its last six league outings.

Arsenal had initially emerged as the front-runner for Malcom's services as the club faces a squad overhaul in lieu of the departures of Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott. Despite a flurry of rumours linking the player with a move to the Emirates Stadium, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger maintained a deal for the winger was not close.

Now, it appears as if Arsenal is putting an emphasis elsewhere to fill the voids left by Sanchez and Walcott, with BBC Sports' David Ornstein reporting Friday that the Gunners had shifted their focus to Manchester United's Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Borussia Dortmund wantaway Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

That has reportedly opened the door for a Tottenham side immersed in an eerily quiet transfer period, with just short-term loan departures for Cameron Carter-Vickers and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou to show for the first two weeks and change of the winter window.
