Giggs' father 'ashamed' of son, calls him unfit to manage Wales

Ryan Giggs was appointed as Wales' new manager on Monday, but his father, ex-rugby player Danny Wilson, said he's "ashamed" of his son for an eight-year marital affair with his brother's wife, and called him unfit for the responsibility of being the national team's boss.

Rather than offering congratulations, Wilson instead revealed that he can't even bring himself to speak his son's name, instead referring to Giggs as "the ex-footballer."

"I feel like going there and having it out with him - he's not fit for for the job," Wilson told the Sun after Giggs was presented as Wales' new manager at Hensol Castle. "It stinks. The Welsh team manager is someone who is respected and looked up to in society.

"He is my son and it brings me close to tears to say that my family don't respect him and look up to him."

Giggs was the subject of a sensational scandal when it was revealed he'd been sleeping with his brother Rhodri's wife, Natasha, for eight years. The two divorced in 2011 as a result of that infidelity and Wilson said his son hasn't apologised.

"I should be the proudest dad in the world, as happy as a lark by what he's achieved - but I am ashamed of him," Wilson said.

"He's put himself first and all he cares about is his TV punditry and opening swanky hotels in Manchester. Now when I see him on TV I switch off, all the family do."

He added: "As the eldest he should have been watching his brother's back - not stabbing him in it. He cheated in the worst possible way and is not man enough to apologise for it."

The two brothers seemed to attempt reconciliation when they were spotted out at a bar together in 2015. But Wilson said last November that Ryan had not apologised for the affair and that Rhodri was now living in Wales "penniless and homeless."

For his part, Ryan Giggs told Sky Sports: "I'm tremendously proud and excited to be the next Wales manager and I can't wait to get going. It's a great opportunity and I'm excited."
