Moyes affirms his job is 'not to pick the England team' after dropping Hart

West Ham manager David Moyes isn't going to lose sleep over his decision to start Adrian between the sticks instead of Joe Hart, explaining it's not his job to ensure England's players get as much playing time as possible.

Hart was dropped for West Ham's latest 1-0 win over Chelsea and is set to be on the bench once more for the Hammers' upcoming bout against Arsenal. The situation presents Hart with a bit of hardship as England manager Gareth Southgate said his 2018 World Cup roster call-ups will have consistency of playing time in mind.

With a loan deal that does not allow Hart to return to Manchester City until next summer, playing time will therefore come at a premium. But, Glasgow native Moyes has called for Hart to give Adrian "all the respect from that position" and fight for his West Ham spot.

"He's a good guy, Joe," Moyes offered, as quoted by ESPN FC. "He's good in the dressing room and he has a level of experience. And I have to tell you he will play a lot of games between now and the end of the season.

"Joe's here, and I don't think his contract allows him to go back anyway. There will be games for Joe and Adrian is going to have to play well. I'm lucky to have two good goalkeepers and at the moment Adrian has got the jersey.

"My job is to pick the West Ham team, not to pick the England team. Gareth's a really good coach and knows exactly what he wants.''
