Report: Mourinho demands big pay rise before signing new United contract

Jose Mourinho is willing to sign a new contract with Manchester United, but only if the Red Devils pay up.

Jamie Jackson of the Guardian reports that Mourinho - now at the midway mark of the three-year contract he signed in the summer of 2016 - wants a bump to his wages of about £15 million before he puts pen to paper on a new deal.

The Portuguese tactician has won the EFL Cup and the Europa League with United, and has his undefeated side sitting just shy of Manchester City atop the Premier League table. United is also faring well in the Champions League, something Mourinho likely hopes will serve as incentive for the club to offer him higher wages.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss also toyed with the idea of leaving Old Trafford this week, admitting he was "sure" Manchester United would not be the final stop in his managerial career, while heaping praise on Paris Saint-Germain's special project.

"My son, who lives in London, went to Paris to watch a Paris Saint-Germain match instead of Manchester," Mourinho said. "Why Paris? Because they have something special. Magic, quality, and youth. It is fantastic."

Curious timing, perhaps, from the wily gaffer.
