Leicester's Morgan, Slimani ruled out of Arsenal clash
Leicester City will be without a pair of key contributors during Wednesday's encounter with Arsenal after manager Craig Shakespeare confirmed injuries will prevent captain Wes Morgan and Islam Slimani from featuring in the match.
Morgan has failed to overcome a hamstring injury that he suffered during Leicester's Champions League semi-final match against Atletico Madrid on April 18.
"Unfortunately Wes Morgan won’t make it (for Wednesday's game with Arsenal)," Shakespeare told reporters. "I think he just overstretched his hamstring."
Meanwhile, Slimani will miss the match because of a groin strain.
News of their injuries coincided with confirmation that Nampalys Mendy will miss the remainder of the season after undergoing a procedure on his ankle.
Leicester needs three points to reach 40 - a mark commonly viewed as the point total that Premier League clubs strive for in order to avoid relegation.
Despite the team's impressive form since he succeeded Claudio Ranieri as manager, Shakespeare insisted that there's plenty of work to be done to ensure Leicester features in the top flight next season.
"Both teams need the points for different reasons and I’m sure it’ll be a decent game," he said.
“We aren’t safe. Even if we get there we've to keep trying to win. Competitiveness is vital in football. We need it to the end.”
