Zlatan: 'I can see myself conquering the U.S.'

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is already eyeing the next stop in his Napoleonic career: Major League Soccer.

The maverick forward says he took on a challenge in moving to Manchester United in the summer - a side he deems weaker than his former employer Paris Saint-Germain - and after surpassing expectations there he wants to "cross the Atlantic and conquer the States as well."

There is an option to extend his stay in England until the end of the 2017-18 campaign, but after then a possible destination would be the future MLS franchise in Miami, fronted by his former PSG teammate David Beckham.

"It's a huge option for me," the 35-year-old told Aftonbladet, with translation from PA Sport. "For the football and everything else. I can see myself conquering the U.S. as I have with Europe.

"Lots of people stay in one place throughout their career, but I've travelled around like Napoleon, and conquered every new country where I've sat foot. So perhaps I should do what Napoleon didn't and cross the Atlantic and conquer the States as well."

Ibrahimovic has tallied a commendable six strikes over 11 Premier League outings so far, but United is nine points adrift of leader Chelsea as manager Jose Mourinho is yet to get some consistency out of his squad. It's this kind of hurdle that Ibrahimovic welcomes, though.

"The team I signed for this summer is not as strong as the one I left, but when Mourinho called the decision was easy," said the Swede. "When he calls I have no problem coming, all we had to decide was when I was to be presented as a Man U player. The rest, the financial deal, was not the difficult part.

"It was about the challenge really, and I will never say no to a challenge. This is what I wanted; coming to one of the world's biggest clubs, that has had troubles and not won much of late, and try the Premier League. That is the challenge."

Ibrahimovic missed last weekend's 1-1 home draw with Arsenal through suspension, but is available for Thursday's visit from Feyenoord in the Europa League.
