Arsenal's away struggles continue in potentially damaging draw with Sunderland

Arsenal is in desperate need of that home cooking.

The Gunners, who flirted with a title challenge this season only to watch yet another opportunity - arguably their best in recent memory - slip away, laboured to a goalless draw with Sunderland on Sunday at the Stadium of Light, a result that sees their away form continue its downward spiral.

On a day when midfielder Jack Wilshere made his return to the pitch after nearly a full year of being sidelined, Arsenal couldn't find a way through the Black Cats' defence, which has now, surprisingly, kept three clean sheets in four contests.

Olivier Giroud was languid and ineffectual in attack, Arsene Wenger was stubbornly slow to introduce his substitutes, and Arsenal supporters were left to think about where, and how, it all went wrong.

The result leaves Wenger's men sitting fourth in the league table, with Arsenal five points clear of Manchester United for the final Champions League berth - though the Red Devils do have a game in-hand.
