Report: Man City close to signing Nunes below Wolves' asking price
Manchester City have reportedly reached a verbal agreement to sign midfielder Matheus Nunes from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The transfer will reportedly cost £47.3 million with no add-ons, according to BBC Sport's Simon Stone. Wolves rejected City's opening offer last week and were apparently requesting a fee in excess of £60 million.
Nunes, 25, has been skipping training sessions in an effort to force through the move. Last season's treble winners revived discussions with Wolves on Wednesday and are confident of completing a transfer ahead of Friday's deadline.
Manchester City stepped up their hunt for a midfielder after Kevin De Bruyne suffered an injury that could rule him out for four months during their Premier League opener. They were previously linked with a move for West Ham United's Lucas Paqueta.
City academy product Tommy Doyle, who starred on loan at Sheffield United last term, is expected to join Wolves in a separate deal. Doyle will move on loan with a view to a permanent deal worth £5 million, according to The Telegraph's John Percy. But transfer insider Fabrizio Romano indicates it will instead be an immediate £5-million move with a 50% sell-on clause written into the paperwork.
