Report: Eriksen needs medical clearance to complete Brentford move

Christian Eriksen's transfer to Brentford will go through if the midfielder completes a successful medical with the Premier League club, according to The Athletic's Jay Harris.

The 29-year-old will undergo extensive medical checks and be examined by a sports cardiologist before he's allowed to play for Brentford. Eriksen has already agreed to a six-month contract with the Bees, with an option to extend the deal for another year.

The former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker hasn't played since he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark's opening match of last summer's European Championship. His contract at Inter Milan was terminated in December due to a law that forbids players fitted with pacemakers from competing in Italy.

Despite his setbacks, Eriksen has voiced his ambition to compete at the World Cup in Qatar. "My heart is not an obstacle," he said earlier this month about the tournament that kicks off in November.

Eriksen played under Brentford manager Thomas Frank for Denmark Under-17s. There are also seven Danish players in the Bees' first-team squad, including Eriksen's international teammates Mathias "Zanka" Jorgensen and Christian Norgaard.

Eriksen has won four Eredivisie titles and the KNVB Cup with Ajax, the Serie A title with Inter, and became a fan favorite at Tottenham as the north London club reached the League Cup final and Champions League final. He has 109 caps for Denmark.
