Report: Spurs looking to move Eriksen in January for less than £40M

Potential suitors for Tottenham's Christian Eriksen have been alerted that the Danish midfielder is available for less than £40 million in January.

Eriksen's contract lapses in the summer, meaning the club risks losing him on a free transfer. That's prompted interest in moving him at a cut-rate price, reports the Evening Standard's Dan Kilpatrick.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reportedly offered Eriksen a new deal worth in excess of £200,000 a week that would place the 27-year-old among the club's best-paid players. Eriksen told new manager Jose Mourinho that he'd instead prefer a new challenge, according to Kilpatrick, forcing Levy's hand.

Eriksen has yet to start a match under Mourinho, who has guided Spurs to three wins in three matches in all competitions since taking over for Mauricio Pochettino.

Dele Alli has been selected over Eriksen for a central attacking midfield role in a 4-2-3-1 formation in all three matches, and the England international has performed well, pairing three goals with a Man of the Match display versus Bournemouth.

Levy was prepared to sell Eriksen to Manchester United in the summer for £80 million, a fee that could now be more than halved. Eriksen can also agree to a pre-contract deal with another club in January, giving potential suitors little impetus for splashing £40 million on a player who could be available for free months later.
