Zaha claims he suffered racist abuse after earning penalty vs. Arsenal
Oft-targeted Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha revealed Tuesday that he received racist messages and death threats against his family after winning a penalty against Arsenal on Sunday.
Zaha earned Palace's second spot-kick of the match when he outmaneuvered midfielder Granit Xhaka in the second half, helping the Eagles secure a 2-2 draw and end the Gunners' winning streak at 11 matches.
"For all the people taking it one step further and being racist and wishing death on my family, I wish you and your families the best too x p.s my life is still very good despite your hate," he wrote on Instagram.
Xhaka admitted in a post-match interview that it was a "clear penalty," adding that he made contact with Zaha's knee as the 25-year-old passed by. However, it appears Xhaka's guilty plea did nothing to quell the storm around Zaha, who has suffered racist abuse on social media before.
No other player in the Premier League is fouled as often as Zaha, who has drawn the referee's whistle an average of 3.3 times per match.
