Manuel Pellegrini is set to return to England's top flight.

Two years after leaving Manchester City with a Premier League winners' medal in tow, the Chilean-born tactician has reportedly agreed to a deal worth up to £7 million a year to become West Ham's 17th permanent manager.

The Telegraph's Jason Burt reports Pellegrini will become the highest-paid manager in Irons history with a basic salary of £5 million annually. That could rise to £7 million, contingent on performance-based incentives that include European qualification.

That amount is more than twice paid to predecessor David Moyes, who stepped down last week after guiding the east London lot to Premier League safety.

According to Burt, Pellegrini flew to London on Sunday for a tour of the London Stadium and the club's training grounds before agreeing to the reported three-year deal with co-owner David Sullivan.

Pellegrini's last managerial appointment with Chinese Premier League side Hebei China Fortune ended Sunday after the club confirmed the 64-year-old's exit. Capped 28 times as a centre-back for Chile, Pellegrini's former posts include Villarreal, Real Madrid, Malaga, and City. At the Etihad, the Santiago-born gaffer paired a league conquest with two League Cup titles in a three-year spell.
