Celtic's record 69-match unbeaten run snapped by superb Hearts

The longest unbeaten run in British football came to a grinding halt Sunday, and the way it happened is perhaps as shocking as the scoreline.

Hearts demolished Celtic 4-0 at Tynecastle Park, with the Jambos unexpectedly beating the six-time reigning Scottish Premiership winner courtesy of a comprehensive performance.

Clever first-half goals from 16-year-old Harry Cochrane and Kyle Lafferty set the tone for the one-sided drubbing before David Milinkovic's double handed Celtic its first defeat since May 2016 against St. Johnstone.

Cochrane's effort was particularly adroit, and while the teen had to gift his Man of the Match bubbly to Milinkovic and opt for something of the non-alcoholic variety instead, the midfielder sounded like a seasoned vet in his assessment of the surprising performance. "I can't get carried away, I just need to keep performing like I did today," Cochrane told Sky Sports.

The unlikely result was also the first time Celtic hasn't scored against a Scottish foe in 75 matches, just one of several stunning numbers from the record run. Over the span of 585 days, The Bhoys won 60 matches, 47 of which came in the league, as Brendan Rodgers' charges bagged 197 goals and kept 38 clean sheets.

After winning the league by a 30-point margin over Aberdeen last season, Sunday's defeat paired with The Dons' 4-1 win over Hibernian on Saturday means Celtic now holds a slim two-point lead over last year's runner-up.
