Report: Stanback set to sign with Lions
The BC Lions are signing running back William Stanback to a one-year deal, sources told 3 Down Nation's John Hodge.
Stanback, 29, requested his release from the Montreal Alouettes last week. He was the highest-paid halfback in the league in 2023, earning $160,000, per Hodge.
The New York native racked up 3,716 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns over three seasons with the Alouettes. Stanback surpassed 1,000 yards rushing in 2019 and 2021, earning CFL All-Star recognition in both years.
The Virginia Union product recorded 800 rushing yards and two touchdowns with a 5.44 yards per carry average in 2023. He added 27 receptions for 241 receiving yards and one score through the air.
Stanback provides the Lions with a veteran option at tailback alongside quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.
Taquan Mizzell led BC's rushing attack last season, with the Lions finishing last in the CFL with a 77.3 yards per game average.
