The Edmonton Elks leveraged an impressive first half to surge past the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 24-10 on Thursday and secure their long-awaited first win of the season.

At halftime, the game was suspended for nearly 90 minutes due to inclement weather before resuming at 10:35 pm ET. But that didn't deter the Elks.

Quarterback Tre Ford delivered an efficient performance, completing 13 of 18 pass attempts for 174 yards and two touchdowns in the win. He also added 60 rushing yards.

Elks wide receiver Steven Dunbar Jr. taunted his former club with four catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Fellow wideout Emmanuel Arceneaux surpassed 9,000 career receiving yards after hauling in three receptions for 33 yards.

The club lost their first nine games of the season before finally notching one in the win column, collecting its first win since defeating the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Sept. 16, 2022.

To secure the victory, the Elks successfully ignored off-field distractions from earlier in the week. On Tuesday, the franchise parted ways with president and chief executive officer Victor Cui, and day-to-day operations are now being handled by the club's senior leadership. Edmonton sported a 4-23 record during Cui's tenure.

Hamilton drops to 1-4 at Tim Hortons Field this season following Thursday's loss. The Ticats are at risk of having their first losing record at home since 2018 when they finished with a 4-5 mark.

Despite Thursday night's win, the Elks still haven't been able to find a win at home. Edmonton has lost a league-record 22 consecutive games at Commonwealth Stadium dating back to 2019.

The Elks (1-9) will try to build on their success when they host the Ottawa Redblacks on Aug. 27. Meanwhile, Hamilton (3-6) will be on the road next week against the BC Lions.
