Fans in Ottawa watched a potential CFL game of the year Saturday featuring an unexpected hero.

Rookie third-string quarterback Dustin Crum shined in his first CFL start, leading the Ottawa Redblacks to a wild 31-28 comeback victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in overtime.

The Bombers had a 25-9 lead with under three minutes to play in the fourth quarter but didn't have answers for Crum and the Redblacks in the final minutes.

Crum's biggest moment came in the extra frame with Winnipeg leading 28-25, as he walked off the Bombers with a 29-yard touchdown run.

Minutes earlier, Crum found receiver Nate Behar in the end zone with no time left to convert a two-point try and force overtime.

The signal-caller steamrolled his way into the end zone on the final down of regulation to put Ottawa within striking distance of overtime.

Crum - who finished Saturday's contest with 261 passing yards and 103 yards on the ground - earned the chance to start Saturday due to a series of quarterback injuries in Ottawa. Starter Jeremiah Masoli suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in Week 5, just a week after backup Tyrie Adams sustained his own year-ending injury, a torn ACL.

In addition to Crum, Ottawa's defense also stepped up late in the game. The Redblacks scored a pick-6 off Zach Collaros with under three minutes left to start their comeback.

With the result, Ottawa improves to 2-3 this season, while Winnipeg sits at 4-2.
