Report: Ex-Stamps DB Roberson to sign with Bears
All-Star defensive back Tre Roberson will sign a two-year contract with the Chicago Bears, TSN's Fahran Lalji reports.
The Calgary Stampeders released Roberson on Jan. 3 so he could pursue NFL opportunities. He's considered one of the CFL's top defenders.
The 27-year-old chose the Bears over nine other teams, and Chicago is expected to give him the largest CFL-to-NFL compensation since the Miami Dolphins signed Cameron Wake in 2009, a league source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Roberson spent the last two seasons in Calgary, capturing the Grey Cup in 2018. He went undrafted out of Illinois State in 2016 and was on the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad for much of his rookie campaign.
The talented cover corner was the Stampeders' nominee for the CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2019 after finishing with the second-most interceptions in the league (seven). He also scored two defensive touchdowns.
Roberson will attempt to stick on Chicago's roster through NFL offseason training activities and spring minicamp.
