Lions end losing streak with win over injury-riddled Bombers
The BC Lions ended their five-game skid with a 36-27 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday, thanks to a big game from quarterback Jonathon Jennings.
The Bombers, however, were shorthanded throughout the contest, as quarterback Matt Nichols left in the first half with a lower body injury and running back Andrew Harris exited in the fourth quarter due to a concussion.
Without their starting passer, Winnipeg did not score an offensive touchdown, relying on kicker Justin Medlock to make seven field goals.
Seizing the opportunity, Jennings threw for 408 yards with four passing touchdowns, hooking up with both Emmanuel Arceneaux and Bryan Burnham for at least 100 yards receiving as both wideouts went over 1,000 yards on the season. Running back Chris Rainey was a heavy contributor as well, rushing for 106 yards and producing 89 receiving yards with two scores.
The Lions had won only one of their last nine games heading into Saturday's contest. B.C. now sits with a 7-10 record, last in the West Division while Winnipeg stays in second as they fall to 11-6.
