Gainey grabs 4 interceptions as Roughriders hammer Lions

Ed Gainey was a one-man wrecking crew for the Saskatchewan Roughriders versus the BC Lions on Sunday, as the standout defensive back became just the ninth player in CFL history with four interceptions in one game.

The 27-year-old picked off Lions starting quarterback Jonathon Jennings three times, and also took one off third-stringer Alex Ross to help secure the Riders' 41-8 blowout win.

Jennings struggled mightily in his return to the lineup after a month's absence, as the standout signal-caller finished with just 195 yards passing and four interceptions.

If Gainey was the star on defense, it was Kevin Glenn who took home the honor on offense as the veteran pivot had his way with a porous Lions unit. Glenn's final numbers were a gaudy 19-of-25 completions for 320 yards and three touchdowns on the night, improving greatly on his 186-yard, two-interception performance against the Lions last week.

The game was a complete role reversal from the meeting between the teams last week in Vancouver, a contest in which B.C. took a 30-0 lead to start the game. This time it was Saskatchewan grabbing the quick start, leading 36-0 early in the fourth quarter.

The Riders improved to 3-4 with the win, but remain in last place in the West, four points behind the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and B.C.
