Call it even: RedBlacks, Stamps tie Grey Cup rematch

Seven months after the Ottawa RedBlacks beat the Calgary Stampeders in overtime to win the Grey Cup, the two stalwarts played another overtime classic Friday, this time fighting to a 31-31 draw in the nation's capital.

It's the third straight game between these teams that's required extra time.

Both sides had their opportunities down the stretch, but neither could take advantage. After the Stamps used a late touchdown to tie the game in regulation, both Ottawa and Calgary squandered potential game-winning drives in the last two minutes.

Calgary appeared ready to turn the tables from the Grey Cup overtime, as Jamar Wall picked off Trevor Harris in the end zone, but kicker Rene Paredes missed a 37-yard field goal on the opposite side of the field that would've won the game for the visitors. Each team kicked a field goal in the second part of the extra frame.

The pick was Harris' lone blemish in what was otherwise a strong season debut. The 31-year-old, who's now entrenched as the full-time starter following Henry Burris' offseason retirement, threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns, completing 73.3 percent of his passes.

His counterpart and reigning CFL Most Outstanding Player, Bo Levi Mitchell, passed for 376 yards and two touchdowns while completing 64.6 percent of his throws.

Kamar Jorden and Lemar Durant caught touchdowns from Mitchell, while Jerome Messam punched one in on the ground.

On the other end, Joshua Stangby, Juron Criner, and William Powell all found the end zone. The RedBlacks didn't have a rushing score.
