Ex-Roughrider Tearrius George receives absolute discharge in assault case

Almost a year to the day that former Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive lineman Tearrius George retired amid a domestic assault scandal, the 34-year-old received an absolute discharge Friday, according to CBC News.

George, who spent nine seasons in the CFL including stints with the Calgary Stampeders as well as the Roughriders, appeared in provincial court in Regina on Friday, where he was given the discharge as well as a $100 victim surcharge.

George pled guilty to the assault charge on Sept. 15, 2016 and his case was then moved to a domestic violence court. The incident allegedly occurred while George and his partner were having an argument that later turned violent, with George allegedly pushing the woman against a wall while grabbing her neck.

George was named a CFL West All-Star in 2014 and led the Roughriders in sacks during the 2013 season.
