Bayern signs Coman to contract extension until 2023
Bayern Munich announced Thursday the signing of Kingsley Coman to a three-year extension, penning the France international to a deal through June 30, 2023.
Coman, 21, joined the club on loan from Juventus two years ago, but became a permanent part of the Bavarian outfit's roster last summer. Since that initial loan spell, he's notched 12 goals in 84 appearances, with club sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic calling Coman "a player with great future potential."
"Kingsley Coman has made fantastic progress this season and has rightfully become a senior France international while at Bayern," Salihamidzic said in a club-issued release. "We're pleased to have tied Kingsley down to a long-term contract and are convinced he'll become a true great at Bayern in the future."
Born in Paris and a product of the Paris Saint-Germain youth academy, Coman made his way through the ranks of the Parisian outfit but appeared just four times for the PSG senior team before making the switch to Juventus in 2014. He spent two seasons at the Italian outfit, but was limited to just a handful of chances, with the bulk of his playing time coming on his two loans at Bayern.
The Bavarians bought Coman for around €21 million and with Franck Ribery missing significant chunks of playing time, Coman came into the first team on the left wing and made it very much his own. This season, Coman has logged more minutes by the midway mark than he had in all of the 2016-17 campaign.
Coman said of his new contract: "I'm very happy that I'll be able to keep playing for this club for a long time. I feel at home at Bayern and in Munich."
