Canelo defeats GGG by unanimous decision in trilogy fight
Canelo Alvarez defeated Gennadiy Golovkin by unanimous decision to retain his super middleweight titles in a highly-anticipated third fight between the two boxing legends.
Judges scored the fight 116-112 and 115-113 on two cards in favor of Alvarez, who beat the 40-year-old Golovkin for the second time in his career.
A spry Alvarez appeared to dominate the slower-footed Golovkin through the first eight rounds before an exciting ninth that was reminiscent of the pair's first two bouts. Golovkin continued to fight well in the later rounds, popping Alvarez with a hook and cutting his challenger above the eye, but it wasn't enough to overcome his Mexican counterpart.
The two fighters, who were involved in a bitter rivalry after controversial results in their first two matches, embraced each other with a hug following the last round.

Alvarez said after the fight that he plans to take an extended break to allow for his body to rest, but he would like to avenge his loss to Dmitry Bivol next.
"I will beat him," Alvarez said of Bivol.
Meanwhile, Golovkin said he has plans to continue his career following Saturday's loss to Alvarez. The Kazakhstani fighter still holds titles at middleweight.
