Fognini says 'bomb should explode' at Wimbledon during loss
Fabio Fognini could find himself in a heap of trouble.
Frustration got the best of the Italian during his straight-sets defeat at the hands of Tennys Sandgren at Wimbledon on Saturday. The world No. 12 was particularly upset about being placed on Court 14 at the All England Club - so much so that he said "a bomb should explode here" during the match.
The facility was actually bombed by Germany during World War II, severely damaging the Centre Court roof.
Fognini apologized during his post-match press conference, stating the comments came in the heat of the moment; he was upset about his play and the court's conditions.
"If I offended anyone, I apologize. That definitely wasn't my intention," he said in Italian, according to The Associated Press.
Fognini is known for his temper. He was ejected from the 2017 US Open for making obscene remarks toward a female umpire.
