Dominic Thiem rebounded from a first-set defeat to knock off Roger Federer in the Madrid Open quarterfinals Friday, winning 3-6, 7-6(13), 6-4.
Thiem will now face Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.
The 25-year-old Austrian saved two match points in the second set to hold off Federer, who remains in search of his first win against a top-10 opponent on clay since 2015.
Djokovic secured his semifinal spot after Marin Cilic withdrew due to food poisoning.
