Wawrinka gives all credit to Nadal after straight-sets demolition

There was little Stan Wawrinka could do to prevent Rafael Nadal from claiming his 10th French Open title Sunday, and the Swiss admitted it after managing to win just six games in his straight-sets defeat.

"Nothing to say about today," Wawrinka told Nadal upon receiving his runner-up trophy on Court Philippe Chatrier, according to Howard Fendrich of the Associated Press. "You were too good."

Wawrinka, the 2015 champion, was demolished 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 in two hours and five minutes. He did his best to remain aggressive throughout the match, hoping his hard work would eventually pay off, but the King of Clay had an answer for everything hit his way.

''I was trying to find solution,'' Wawrinka, who was reduced to smashing a racket at one point in the match, said during his press conference, according to Daniella Matar from the Associated Press. ''I was trying to play better. I was trying to play the game I wanted to play. I was trying to do something different.

''But there is not much to talk about the match. I think tough match, tough loss. I played against the biggest clay-court player ever. He won his 10th French Open today, so that's something huge, also.''

The loss was Wawrinka's first in four Grand Slam finals. He'll next turn his attention to the grass-court season and Wimbledon, the only major tournament he's yet to conquer.
