Happy anniversary, Twitter: 5 best team accounts in European football
Soccer Twitter is a beautiful thing, but some teams are better than others at navigating the social media site, which celebrates its 10th anniversary today.
Over the past decade, a handful of clubs have proven they know how to engage with fans, provide informative and entertaining content, and, most importantly, deliver quality banter.
So, rather than continuing to suffer through the sea of poorly run, bland accounts, take a look at five teams we think are #GoodatTwitter.

1. Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund has some of the best fans in the world, and the team makes sure to repay that love with plenty of shareable, timely messages from its official account, which is the undisputed king of football Twitter thanks to gems like this:
We heard the news today, oh boy! All the best at The Kop, Jürgen Klopp! All the best at @LFC! #klopplfc pic.twitter.com/2vAvY4Hc4F
— Borussia Dortmund (@BVB) October 8, 2015
And banter like this, from the club's recent Europa League tie against Tottenham:
Sorry, mate. #totbvb 0-1 pic.twitter.com/wg1wCCYfW2
— Borussia Dortmund (@BVB) March 17, 2016
They're not afraid to joke with Twitter eggs, either:
@d62496811 That's very nice. However, we're not the band you're looking for. In fact, we are not even a band. We're a football (soccer) club
— Borussia Dortmund (@BVB) March 26, 2014
Dortmund's account is rivaled only by ...
2. Bayern Munich
Naturally.
Bayern Munich is, perhaps, the single most active and comprehensive Twitter account in the world of football. While not as light or witty on the banter front as Dortmund, Bayern offers a healthy dose of professional news updates, fan-focused contests, prizes, photos and behind-the-scene looks, all in multiple languages, too.
When it comes to live match updates that offer authenticity amongst fans, the Bavarian side is in a class all its own. This, for example, perfectly captured the gamut of emotions supporters felt during the second leg of Bayern's Champions League tie against Juventus earlier this month.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! @esmuellert_ heads us level in the 91st minute. We love you Thomas! #FCBJuve 2-2

Their Photoshop and GIF games are on point, too:

3. Paris Saint-Germain
The French club's Twitter account is absolutely ruthless.
Check out this Diego Costa call-out ahead of Les Parisiens' Champions League clash against Chelsea earlier this month:
Did you spot the hero? Ok, now it's time to find the fraud... https://t.co/pkKAUdV1pP
— PSG English (@PSG_English) March 8, 2016
#NoChill.
4. Juventus
Look, having Andrea Pirlo at your club makes life a lot easier, particularly when you need to create engaging content online. Photos of the bearded maestro alone get the job done. But instead of resting on their laurels, Juventus' social media team produced one of the better campaigns in recent memory while the midfielder was at the club:

— JuventusFC (@juventusfcen) October 7, 2014
This one, capitalizing on his almost telepathic connection with Stephan Lichtsteiner, was also thoroughly enjoyable.
The Bianconeri also aren't shy about utilizing their mascot:

5. Real Madrid
It would be easy for Real Madrid to just tweet pictures of Cristiano Ronaldo all day and roll in the likes and retweets, but the Spanish giant's account is comprehensive, visually pleasing, and pretty entertaining in multiple languages.
You'll get your daily dose of star footballers, of course, but also plenty of updates on youth team players, the daily goings-on at the club and some community-focused Tweets, too:

— Real Madrid C.F. (@realmadriden) March 7, 2016
Real Madrid's account is, perhaps, one of the most polished and professional team Twitter pages around, but doesn't lose that sense of community and fun. Something, it seems, the club's arch-rivals have forgotten ...
#Yawn
Barcelona
Here's a perfect example of a team that just doesn't get the point of social media: Barcelona attaches a link to almost every single tweet. Case in point, what should have been a quick video upload on youngster Sergi Roberto ended up being a boring click-through instead:
[VIDEO] Sergi Roberto answers questions asked by his childhood friends https://t.co/R8OaNO26Zh pic.twitter.com/h61TDvdvMZ
— FC Barcelona (@FCBarcelona) March 8, 2016
Barcelona's feed looks like it's run by an automated Twitter bot.
West Brom
West Brom makes our list not just for being a relatively dull account to follow, but for this one particular incident against Manchester United two seasons ago:
Fellaini has now taken his tracksuit off, fortunately he has a Man Utd strip on underneath #WBAMUN
— West Bromwich Albion (@WBAFCofficial) October 20, 2014
As far as banter goes, it's a solid 5/10 effort. But, after garnering the exact sort of fan rage that they should have expected when insulting Manchester United - the single most vocal Premier League fanbase around the world - they followed it up with this:
Sorry if a joke about a footballer not having a shirt on under his tracksuit top has caused such outrage. It was not intended as a slur
— West Bromwich Albion (@WBAFCofficial) October 20, 2014
Weak. You have to own the banter, West Brom. Let the hate flow through you.
So bad, it's good
We'd of course be remiss if we didn't mention this 2013 gem from Chelsea, which was quickly deleted.

#NeverForget.
