Report: Szczesny set to back up Cech in return to Arsenal following Roma loan spell

Wojciech Szczesny's career at Arsenal may not be over, after all.

The Polish netminder, who is currently on a season-long loan with Italian side Roma, appears to have a future at the Emirates Stadium following the team's assurance that he will be back when the season concludes, according to John Cross of The Mirror.

Arsenal is reportedly eager for Szczesny to return to the fold and replace Colombian 'keeper David Ospina as Petr Cech's backup.

His return would be in contrast to previous reports that his career with the Gunners was over following his demotion last season. Szczesny lost his starting job to Ospina following a poor performance against Southampton last January, when he was also caught smoking in the team's dressing room after the loss.

Before this season, the 25-year-old was a staple in manager Arsene Wenger's squad since the 2011-12 season, and featured in the team's FA Cup triumph over Aston Villa in June.

Meanwhile, Ospina looks set for a fresh start elsewhere, as opportunities since his disastrous performance in the Champions League against Olympiacos have been few and far between.
