Juventus' Morata extends contract until 2020

Juventus striker Alvaro Morata has extended his contract at the club until 2020, the team announced Thursday.

The Madrid-born international, who joined the Old Lady in 2014 from Real Madrid, signed a five-year deal, with the Spanish giants holding a buy-back option.

The one-year extension expires June 30, 2020.

Since joining the defending Serie A champs, the 23-year-old has made 42 league appearances for the club, scoring seven times for a side deep at the forward position with Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic, and Simone Zaza.

Morata's first season at Juventus helped the striker emerge as one of Europe's best young goal-scoring forwards, with thirteen goals in all competitions, including the club's lone tally in a 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Barcelona.

His second campaign with the club hasn't gone as well - calf and abdominal issues, combined with decreased playing time - spurring speculation about a potential return to Real, despite Morata's insistence that he's happy in Italy.

"I am fine where I am and do not think about (joining) another club. There has been no contact with Real Madrid," Morata told La Gazzetta dello Sport, courtesy of ESPNFC.

This counters claims from his agent Ernesto Bronzetti, who told Italy's Tuttosport in mid-November that the capital club was interested in bringing Morata back to Madrid.

"Madrid's intention is to bring him back, but whether they do it or not will depend on the will of the player," Bronzetti said. "The outcome will arrive in the months to come."

With a reported buy-back clause of €35 million, it would cost Real €13 million more than the amount Juventus doled out last summer.

Even with the buy-back option looming over his tenure at the club, Morata's extension coupled with his words should delight supporters of the bianconeri.

"The only thing that interests me is to play as much as possible with Juve and winning titles," Morata said.
