Francesco Totti: 'I'm 38 years old and playing in the Champions League'

When Francesco Totti takes the pitch against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday, the match will mark the 38-year-old's 51st Champions League appearance.

But while that may be more fixtures than most players could ever dream of playing in Europe's most prestigious club competition, Totti has never been able to guide Roma past the round of 16. Things could be different this time around, however, as the Italian club are entering the Champions League with arguably one of the strongest squads in their history.

"It's hard to compare; I'm lucky enough to be able to say I've played with many great players over the years," said Totti ahead of Roma's current team. "I hope we can get as far as possible, that's our objective and that's the city objective."

The Stadio Olimpico's cult icon also insists that age is no issue for him and that he'll be the first to acknowledge when it's time to hang up the cleats.

"I'm 38 years old and playing in the Champions League," Totti continued. "I feel lucky, but I believe in myself. The years go by but I don't feel them - that's the truth! I'll be the first one to hold my hands up when I can no longer cut it alongside my teammates. Being in this competition again is a blessing for me and for the whole team."

Should Roma look to advance from a group that includes the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester City, another season of magic from Totti will go a long way.
