PERUGIA, Italy - Italy have called up Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante into their World Cup squad as cover for injured PSG shotstopper Salvatore Sirigu, the country's football federation announced Wednesday.
Sirigu is suffering from a bruised rib, an injury team doctor Enrico Castellacci said was "painful but manageable".
Mirante will train with Italy until June 13, the deadline teams have to eventually replace a player in the 23-strong squad for the June 12-July 13 World Cup finals in Brazil.
Italy kick off their World Cup campaign against England in Manaus on June 15, with their other Group D rivals Uruguay and Costa Rica.
