Belotti: I'm not worth €100M

Despite leading the Serie A scoring charts, Andrea Belotti has a hard time believing he's worth his €100-million release clause.

Belotti has stormed onto the scene with Torino this season, banging in 25 goals in 30 league appearances while drawing in reported interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.

He signed a four-year contract in December that allows foreign clubs to purchase the 23-year-old for €100 million - no questions asked.

Belotti said his price tag has more to do with the current market than anything he's done on the pitch, even if it's been spectacular. Topping the highlights is an eight-minute hat-trick against Palermo, which ranks among the quickest in Serie A history.

Still, he cannot justify himself as one of the world's most expensive players ever.

"To be honest, no," Belotti told Mediaset, according to ESPN FC's Ben Gladwell. "But given the way the transfer market has developed, increasingly ridiculous sums are being spent. The cost of players has gone up far too much."

Last summer, crosstown rival Juventus was involved in two of the biggest transactions to date. The Bianconeri recruited Gonzalo Higuain from Napoli after activating his €90-million buyout clause, and then shipped Paul Pogba to United for a world-record €105-million fee.

Belotti, however, has yet to indulge in the rumours.

"Hernan Crespo did far more than I have. I've achieved nothing yet," he said.

Club president Urbano Cairo has only pumped up Belotti's stock, claiming in March that he is worth even more than Lionel Messi.
