Evra congratulates old foe Suarez on Golden Shoe
Judging by Patrice Evra's Instagram account, his vitriolic feud with Luis Suarez is a thing of the past.
Evra appears to have put his differences with Suarez aside as he congratulated the Barcelona forward on winning the European Golden Shoe award Thursday.
In an act that would have seemed unimaginable five years ago when the pair were embroiled in a bitter dispute during their days in England, the former Manchester United defender paid tribute to Suarez's latest honour and even went so far as to dub him the "best no. 9" in football.
His message on Instagram read: "Luis - you're a great player, the best No 9. Congratulations. I love this game."
The two infamously clashed at Anfield when the former Liverpool striker allegedly racially abused Evra - who now plies his trade at Juventus.
The incident made worldwide headlines and eventually led to Suarez getting fined and slapped with an eight-match ban. However, the drama was far from over, as they clashed once again when Suarez refused to shake Evra's hand during the next meeting between the two teams later the same season.
They eventually shook hands less than a year after the row erupted.
