Team needs: 3 more moves Inter should make in transfer window

Reuters

Inter Milan is a club far removed from its days of dominance in Serie A. The Nerazzurri finished fourth last season, a marked improvement on their eighth-place finish in 2014-15, but nowhere near their glory days of a decade past.

Under Roberto Mancini, Inter has worked tirelessly to establish an identity and playing style, one that dissolved once Jose Mourinho departed his Champions League-winning team.

Challenging the likes of the seemingly indomitable Juventus and other surging sides like Napoli and AS Roma won't be an easy task for Mancini's men, but bringing in key contributors like Ever Banega and Cristian Ansaldi, and signing Marcelo Brozovic to a permanent deal, certainly helps.

Here are three more moves Inter needs to make in the summer transfer window:

Add a winger or two

Bringing in Ansaldi, Dodo, and Caner Erkin helped reinforce Inter's full-back spots, but, despite boasting the likes of Ivan Perisic, Brozovic, and Stevan Jovetic, Inter could still use a few more pure wing options in the squad.

Adem Ljajic's loan expiration and subsequent move to Torino leaves Inter even more shorthanded in this regard. With Europa League football on the horizon this season, and Mancini utilizing a formation that emphasizes width, additions here would serve the club well.

There are quite a few options for Mancini to consider, but the most surprising is Alex Teixeira, who moved to Jiangsu Suning in January and is reportedly looking to leave China already, since the Italian club was purchased by the Suning ownership group in June.

Potential targets: Alex Teixeira (Jiangsu Suning), Joao Mario (Sporting CP), Marlos (Shakhtar Donetsk)

Further strengthen midfield ranks

While not the most pressing need in Inter's squad, bolstering the team's midfield ranks with a clear starting central midfielder would be a smart move on the club's part.

Felipe Melo isn't getting any younger (or any more competent) and the jury's still out on Geoffrey Kondogbia and Gary Medel as long-term options. Brozovic and Banega can operate in central midfield, but it would stifle their attacking contributions.

As such, bringing in a few more midfield depth options certainly wouldn't hurt, especially since Mateo Kovacic is no longer a part of the squad.

Potential targets: Nemanja Matic (Chelsea), Axel Witsel (Zenit St. Petersburg), Thiago Motta (Paris Saint-Germain),

Plan for Icardi's exit

Whether or not Mauro Icardi stays with Inter this year, the club ought to begin thinking about a future without the Argentina striker, lest Eder be given the sole starting role up top before his loan expires and he returns to Sampdoria.

Even if Icardi stays, Inter could use a few more striking options, as Rodrigo Palacio is 34 and slowing down, and Jovetic is better served as a second striker.

And, adding a bit of physicality would also bring to Inter the sort of attacking options it has been lacking since the likes of Diego Milito, Diego Forlan, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic departed the club. If Inter's new owners are willing to splash a big amount of cash, the options are intriguing.

Potential targets: Gabriel Jesus (Palmeiras), Manolo Gabbiadini (Napoli)
