Tiger Woods is making a believer out of Tiger Woods.

The 40-year-old shot an impressive bogey-free 7-under 65 on Friday, carding seven birdies as he moved up the leaderboard at the Hero World Challenge.

He spoke about the importance of his day after the round.

"It was very important for me because I hadn't felt the competitive flow in the field in a long time," Woods told reporters. "It's been almost a year-and-a-half, and to feel it yesterday, to feel that tee shot on two and feel like, you know, hey, I'm back in this again.

"You know, I have the feeling of playing tournament golf and (Friday) I had it early, the first tee shot, I felt very comfortable and I pounded it down there, only had 80 yards to the hole, so that was a nice start."

Woods impressed on the front nine Thursday before struggling to close out his round, finishing 17th out of 18 in the field. With Justin Rose withdrawing from the tournament due to injury, Tiger golfed on his own Friday, and that seemed to suit him well.

"It feels good," Woods said about his round, and how it sets him up for the weekend. "As I said (Thursday), I had it going through eight holes and I lost it and finished over par. (Friday) was different, I turned those two par 5s into under par and that's four shots right there. Consequently, I was able to play the middle part of the round better, turned it around and kept the momentum going, and, you know, I moved myself up the board."

Indeed he did, and all eyes will be on Woods again Saturday.
