Senators place Wiercioch on injured reserve

The Ottawa Senators placed defenseman Patrick Wiercioch on injured reserve with an upper-body injury Tuesday, Don Brennan of the Ottawa Sun reports.

It is believed the 25-year-old suffered a concussion after a hit from Columbus Blue Jackets captain Nick Foligno on Nov. 19. Jared Cowen was re-inserted into the Senators' top six in his absence. He will be eligible to return Saturday.

Wiercioch has three assists in 18 games this season.
