Report: Bergevin working the phones in attempt to add to Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin knows his team is one of the best in the NHL. He wants to make it even better.
Multiple reports suggest Bergevin is diligently working the phones. ESPN's Pierre LeBrun writes that the former Habs defender has been in touch with almost every team in the league.
(Bergevin) is among the more active GMs in the league again this season in terms of reaching out to his fellow GMs around the league. And he does so in a very methodical way, every single week talking to a number of teams just to catch up and stay informed on where those teams are. He tries never to go more than three weeks without circling back to almost every team.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman wrote in Tuesday's "30 Thoughts" that "there is certainly a feeling (Bergevin's) going to add" to his club.
"It wouldn’t be a surprise if he’s looking at upgrades both at forward and on defence," Friedman added.
While the Canadiens don't have many holes in their lineup, they're a bit thin at right wing after losing Brendan Gallagher for at least six weeks after he underwent surgery to repair two broken fingers.
Devante Smith-Pelly skated on the first line in practice Tuesday, so look for him to take Gallagher's spot for the time being, joining Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty.

The Canadiens are tied for first in the Eastern Conference with 34 points, with 16 wins in their first 22 games. Their plus-28 goal differential is tied with the New York Rangers for tops in the league.
The club's play is all the more impressive considering all-world goaltender Carey Price missed three weeks with a lower-body injury.
