GM Jim Benning says Sedin twins will retire as Canucks
After over a decade of being the faces of the Vancouver Canucks, Henrik and Daniel Sedin can now breathe a sigh of relief knowing that they won't be needing any moving trucks any time soon.
General manager Jim Benning was asked Thursday if the twins would retire as Canucks on TSN 1200, and he was quick to dispel any notion they'd be on the market.
"Yes, that's safe to say. They're still real good players for us as witnessed the other night in Columbus," said Benning, referring to their combined seven-point outburst on Tuesday against the Blue Jackets. "They're our leaders.
"They're players that we want our young players - as we transition young players into our organization - to rub elbows with in the dressing room and to see how hard they work in practice and to be the mentors to our young players."
The Sedins have combined for 1,823 points in 2,185 career games. Henrik was named team captain after winning the Art Ross and Hart Trophies in 2010, and Daniel followed that effort with an Art Ross and Ted Lindsay Award the following season - when they lost in the Stanley Cup Finals to the Boston Bruins.
The brothers are signed through the 2017-18 season, after inking identical four-year $28-million contracts in 2013.
