Report: Sabres not shopping for goalie after injury to Lehner

Tim Murray is prepared to stay the course, at least for the time being.

Even with goaltender Robin Lehner on the shelf for six-to-10 weeks with an ankle injury, the Buffalo Sabres general manager isn't look to bring in outside help.

"We're giving Chad Johnson a chance to play," Murray said Tuesday, according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN. "To me, trading for a goalie and not using who we have here first would be crazy."

While Nathan Lieuwen was called up from the AHL to back up Johnson, it's another young netminder who has Murray thinking the team can get by during Lehner's absence.

"We also have high hopes for (Linus) Ullmark," Murray said. "He's 22 years old, he's not a kid. He was goalie of the year in Sweden two years ago. The only problem with him is that he hasn't played in North America."

Ullmark, a sixth-round pick back in 2012, is 1-0-0 with a save percentage of .974 in his first season with the AHL's Rochester Americans.

For now, Johnson appears in line to get the majority of the starts. In three appearances this season, he posted a record of 1-2-0 with a save percentage of .891.
