T.J. Oshie on joining Capitals: 'This team's ready to win'

T.J. Oshie likes what he sees with his new team.

The Washington Capitals traded for Oshie after signing Justin Williams, in an effort to improve the supporting cast around Alex Ovechkin. Oshie's first week with Washington has him believing the Capitals are a Stanley Cup contender.

"This team's ready to win, it looks like," Oshie told reporters Saturday. "I'm happy to be an addition to that and be a piece of the puzzle."

Oshie was so excited by his meeting with coach Barry Trotz and the team, he was at a loss for words during his first media availability Friday. He'll need to temper that excitement with training camp still two months away.

"It was really hard to talk yesterday," Oshie said. "I was just so excited after talking to the coaches that I just wanted to start playing right away. It was just their excitement for the season to start and the excitement for our team. You can just tell that they're fired up and they got me fired up, even though we're a couple months away."

Oshie has 310 points in 443 career regular-season appearances with the St. Louis Blues, but only nine points in 30 playoff games. Joining a team that hasn't made it to the conference finals since 1998 will give Oshie and the Capitals a chance to exorcise their postseason demons together.
