The NHL has suspended forward Jared Boll of the Columbus Blue Jackets for three games after delivering an illegal check on Patrick Maroon of the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday.
As the video explains, Maroon attempted to cycle the puck out of the corner when Boll elevated into a hit and drove his right shoulder directly into Maroon's head.
The league deemed Maroon as eligible to be hit, but said head contact was avoidable, leaving the onus on Boll to deliver a hit to the core.

Boll has been suspended once and fined twice for illegal checks to the head, which factored into the league's decision.
