Report: Bruins GM Chiarelli will attend Sabres-Lightning game Tuesday

It's a little early in the season for scouts attending NHL games to draw media attention, but a general manager? That's always newsworthy:

Peter Chiarelli's Boston Bruins are currently on a West Coast swing and are due to face the Los Angeles Kings in the second leg of back-to-back games in SoCal on Tuesday night.

The Bruins' general manager will be in Buffalo, though, watching the Tampa Bay Lightning take on the Sabres. His presence is intriguing, particularly because Boston has been frequently linked with the Sabres in trade rumors, and reportedly has some interest in winger Chris Stewart.

Boston has underachieved through the first two months of the year, mostly due to injuries and uncharacteristically shaky goaltending.

As for Stewart, the pending unrestricted free agent has been snakebit offensively in Buffalo. In 24 games, he's managed just three goals and four total points, but he leads all Sabres in 5-on-5 shot rate, which suggests that his pedestrian counting stats are mostly the result of bad luck.
