Flyers' Mason after Game 5 loss to Rangers: 'This series is definitely not over'

The Philadelphia Flyers dropped a 4-2 decision to the New York Rangers in Game 5 of their first-round series Sunday, but according to goaltender Steve Mason, there remains much to be decided between the two clubs.

"This series is definitely not over," he told Andrew Gross of The Record. "We are looking to getting back home and having a big game and bringing it back here."

Captain Claude Giroux - no stranger to making guarantee-type statements - added his team is planning on playing a Game 7 back in New York.

Based on the pattern of wins in the series so far, Mason and Giroux may be on to something; the Rangers and Flyers traded wins in each of the first five games, while, in the bigger picture, Philadelphia overcame a 1-7-0 start to the season just to qualify for the playoffs.

For his part, Mason is looking good in the series; In three appearances after his return from injury, he allowed only four goals on 62 shots, good for a .935 save percentage. In order for the Flyers to force a Game 7, they will certainly need more of the same from their seemingly very confident No. 1 goalie.

Game 6 will be played Tuesday in Philadelphia.
