Flyers' Giroux: 'we're going to tie up this series' after Game 3 loss

Eric Hartline / USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux was looking straight ahead at the next contest after a 4-1 loss to the New York Rangers in Game 3 of their first round series.

It's a rather bold semi-guarantee, especially coming from a player who has yet to register a shot on goal through three games. Giroux has posted only two points in the series, both of the secondary assist variety. The Rangers have clearly been keying in on the captain, but despite the lack of offense, he is not exactly hurting the team with a 50 percent Corsi rating at even strength and a plus-three rating.

Linemate Jakub Voracek does not appear too concerned with Giroux's lack of production thus far. "He's been in the league for 6 years," he told Philly.com. "He's doing so many other things right. I'm sure he'll be fine."

For his part, Giroux appears to be maintaining a positive attitude, adding "we just have to stay confident, it's the playoffs, it's exciting" to his statement in the tweet above.

Early struggles are nothing new for Giroux; he overcame a tough start to the regular season and registered 86 points (28 goals, 58 assists) in 82 games, and could be in line for a Hart Trophy nomination.

Game 4 is set for Friday in Philadelphia.
