NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Tampa Bay

Tampa, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Jason Garrison scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and the Tampa Bay Lightning held on for a 4-3 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

There were no late heroics for Chicago in this game, despite Tampa starting goaltender Ben Bishop leaving the game in the third period and Andrei Vasilevskiy taking over.

The 20-year-old Russian rookie held firm in the high-stakes situation, stopping all five shots he faced in just over nine minutes of play to help the Lightning even this best-of-seven series at 1-1.

"The one thing about Vasilevskiy -- I know we have two unbelievably capable goaltenders," said Tampa head coach Jon Cooper. "When Bish had to leave, there wasn't an ounce of stress on anybody on our bench, including myself. I mean, the kid proved it when he went in. He was great."

Tyler Johnson, Cedric Paquette and Nikita Kucherov also scored for the Bolts, who also got a pair of assists from Victor Hedman and Ryan Callahan in the victory.

"Well, I thought we were a lot more aggressive today than we were in Game 1," said Johnson. "I thought Game 1 we were a little bit hesitant making plays. That kind of added on not being able to execute. So I thought tonight's game was a lot better from the line."

Brent Seabrook, Andrew Shaw and Teuvo Teravainen all scored for the Blackhawks, who scored a pair of goals late in the third period on Wednesday to win the series opener.

Corey Crawford stopped 20 shots in the loss.

The series now switches to Chicago for the next two games with Game 3 set for Monday night.

"We get to go home, get excited, play in our building," said Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville. "I'm sure everybody will be loud and excited about us coming back."

Trailing by a goal, the Blackhawks tied the game at 3:38 of the third as Jonathan Toews gained the line down the middle and drifted over to the right side before passing the puck back to the slot for Seabrook, who blasted a shot in with Marian Hossa providing a screen.

Patrick Sharp was called for high-sticking at 7:17 of the third, and Bishop also left the net at that time and went into the locker room, with Vasilevskiy taking over.

On the man advantage, Hedman sent a pass from the left circle to the high slot where Garrison blasted a shot on net that deflected off the stick of Andrew Desjardins and went in with 11:11 to play.

Bishop then came back into the net, but left again 3 1/2 minutes later and once again Vasilevskiy took over.

The toughest save he made over the rest of the game was a one-timer from the right circle by Sharp with around five minutes to play, and then he fought off a Toews shot from the left wing with under two minutes to play and Chicago skating 6-on-5.

Tampa did a good job after that keeping the puck away from the net, as the team spent a good deal of time in neutral ice and the Chicago end to kill off the clock.

The Lightning drew first blood in the game with 7:04 to play in the first period, as they were able to negate an icing and keep play going in the Chicago end. The disc eventually came out to the slot, where Paquette grabbed it and made a move to get clear of Brandon Saad before snapping a wrister in for his second goal of the playoffs.

The only penalty of the first came when Johnny Oduya was called for tripping with 1:32 left to give the Lightning an advantage, but they were unable to do anything before the horn sounded.

Chicago tied the game 3:04 into the second when Desjardins threw a shot on net from the top of the left circle that was knocked down, but Shaw was in front to swipe the puck past Bishop for his fifth goal of the playoffs.

Awarded a power play a bit later when Alex Killorn was called for hooking, the Blackhawks took a 2-1 lead after Teravainen and Hossa worked the puck along the right wing, with Hossa sending to back to Teravainen for a wrister into the left corner at 5:20.

Tampa Bay, though, answered just over 1 1/2 minutes later, as Garrison threw the puck down low from the high slot and Kucherov redirected it past Crawford for his 10th of the playoffs.

Chicago was given another power play when Braydon Coburn was whistled for holding at 9:24, but the Blackhawks were unable to take advantage.

The Lightning then went back on top with 6:02 to play in the middle stanza. Johnson had the puck at the left corner and skated closer to the net before throwing a backhand from along the goal line that rolled up Crawford's back and went in for a 3-2 lead.
